Gas Piping Responsibilities: What’s Ours vs. What’s Yours?
We work hard to always ensure the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to your home. But when it comes to gas piping and maintenance, it’s important to understand where our responsibility ends—and yours begins.
YCNGA’s Responsibility
YCNGA is responsible for the underground service line that delivers natural gas from the main line to your home. This includes:
-
Locating and maintaining the service line up to your meter
-
The regulator
-
The gas meter itself
Essentially, everything from the road to your gas meter is on us.
The Customer’s Responsibility
Once gas reaches your meter, the responsibility shifts to you. Customers are responsible for:
-
All piping from the meter into and throughout your home
-
The installation and maintenance of piping to natural gas appliances
-
Appliance upkeep and repairs
If it’s on the house-side of the meter—including outdoor gas appliances—it’s your job to keep it working safely and efficiently.
